Moving Tips

In our continuing effort to provide you with a quality relocation that meets our rigid standards and exceeds your expectations, we have assembled a list of helpful tips and suggestions for your move.

PLEASE REMEMBER

The following items cannot be packed or loaded on the van:

  • Aerosol cans
  • Ammunition
  • Combustibles
  • Corrosives
  • Flammables
  • Open Clothing Items
  • Paints
  • Perishable Items
  • Plants

The following items are not covered under your valuation (transit protection) policy. Please arrange to take these items with you personally.

  • Currency
  • Important Documents
  • Jewelry
  • Securities
  • Software Program Contents

We are not allowed to remove any article that is permanently affixed or secured to the property such as:

  • Carpeting
  • Drapery / Rods
  • Electrical Fixtures
  • Mirrors
  • Pictures
  • Plumbing Fixtures
  • Shelving

If you plan to take any of these items, please make arrangements to have them removed from the walls before the mover arrives.

To protect your belongings and avoid accidents, all motorized products such as lawn mowers, edgers, and other applicable machinery must be drained of gasoline and oil.

Gas grill and propane tanks must be professionally emptied (purged) and tagged to certify such service.

Refrigerators and freezers must be defrosted and allowed to dry 12 to 24 hours prior to loading. All frozen items are to be removed. We suggest the interior be wiped dry to protect the unit from mildew or mold. To avoid unpleasant odor, we recommend placing a sock filled with charcoal or fresh coffee grounds in each compartment.

Appliances such as washers, dryers and icemakers must be disconnected and serviced before they are moved. Depending upon the type of appliance, this may be done by you or we can arrange for the servicing.

Mechanical failure of electronic products such as microwave ovens, stereos, TV’s, radios, computers, CD’s etc., is not covered under normal valuation (transit protection) unless there is transit related damage. Please make certain you review your owner’s manual for proper servicing prior to moving.

Waterbeds, grandfather clocks, pool tables, hot tubs, etc. may require special packing or servicing. Please make sure these are in good working order and we are aware of your plans to move such items, so we can assist you with proper preparation.

All read/write heads on your computer must be secured (parked) before moving. Floppy drives must be secured by inserting the shipping inserts or “scratch” diskettes into your drive. Consult your owner's manual or call your factory representative if you are unfamiliar with this procedure.

All items to be moved must be accessible to the mover. Items in crawl spaces, attics or temporary storage areas should be brought to an accessible area in your home.

Place items you do not want the movers to pack in an empty closet or secured area. Let movers know these items will be taken care of by you personally.

Keep pets in a secured area while movers are packing and loading.

COMMUNICATION IS SO IMPORTANT

Call your move coordinator if you have any questions.

Please arrange to be present at packing, loading, and delivery.

Leave your telephone and utilities connected until the day after departure.

Please provide the move coordinator with your new home telephone number and any other contact numbers along the way. Also provide the driver with directions to the new residence.

At loading, remain until everything has been inventoried and removed. Perform a final walk-thru the home with the driver to ensure all items to go are removed.

If your household goods are going to storage please clearly identify the items that go to storage, versus the items you may need for temporary living at the new location. Some commonly overlooked items that go into storage in error are: clothes, personal papers, medications, children school supplies and toys.

When you plan to deliver out of storage to the new residence, contact your move coordinator with the delivery address and preferred delivery date. Please allow 7 to 10 working days to schedule delivery.

Upon delivery, please use the original inventories to check off each item, as it is unloaded. If any item is missing or damaged, note it at this time on the inventory.

After your move has been completed, if you have any missing or damaged articles please contact your move coordinator.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR COOPERATION!

A move is a very unique and personal experience. Good planning, preparation, and cooperation will help you help us make this your finest move ever.
